Week 15 and new bikes

We've made it to week 15!

Baby May is an avocado :)
Not much to report this week.  Feeling MUCH better.  We started working on the baby's room this weekend!  We bought a dresser and moved the bed to the basement.

Before.  This was our mismatched, ugly spare room
After a couple curse words directed at IKEA we have a dresser and the start of the new room!  We're hopefully going to find out whether it's a boy or girl at the end of September so then we'll work on the paint etc.

My supervisor and helper, Cali
And we have a dresser/changing table!
While the theft of our bikes was terrible, our insurance company came through and we had a check in hand to buy new bikes in 5 days!  Needless to say it didn't take me long to go find a replacement.  I looked and looked but couldn't really find anything great to replace my Stumpjumper that wasn't completely overpriced.  So I went back for the new Stumpjumper!  They upgraded nearly everything on the bike, so it was a pretty great upgrade.  We'll replace Lexi's ride this spring when she is ready to get back in the saddle.  The White's were kind enough to lend us a cruiser for Lexi to use this fall for trips around the block and to the park.
Notice the lock around the frame, this bike is going nowhere!

The picture doesn't really do it justice.  Looking forward to getting this rig into the mountains this coming weekend to really test it out.

More to come next week!
Love,
Lexi and Andy

Stolen bikes, hikes and week 14

Friday finally rolled around, so to celebrate the end of the week we marinated some great steaks, smashed some potatoes from the garden and had some good corn on the cob.  Lexi even made a cheesecake!  It was a fantastic evening!

That ended all too soon when we woke up on Saturday morning.  The food coma that followed our feast resulted in both of us forgetting to close the garage door...  We woke up and found that our bikes were gone.  The thief/thieves stole both bikes, the change from the RAV and my new Oakleys.  Needless to say we are both heartbroken.  The Sandy police stopped by and we filed our police report so that we could file a homeowners claim.  In the end we are lucky that nothing else was taken, we could be out two cars.  So much for a guard dog!

We weren't going to let that get us down, and since we can't bike we packed up the dog and some snacks and headed into the mountains to hike.  The Uintas are a range about an hour out of SLC and are a great place to beat the heat.  Lake Fehr is a beautiful alpine lake below Mount Baldy (11943ft) and across from Hayden Peak (12479ft).  Cal was in the lake immediately, per the usual.  We hiked past Lake Fehr and found a shady spot next to a pond to read our books and let Cali play in the water.  Another family showed up with a brown lab that was so happy to be in the water that she just barked and swam in circles, it was pretty cute.  We came home and made another fabulous meal of home made fried chicken and had drinks with the Whites.  All in all a good day considering the theft of our bicycles.

We also made it to the 2nd Trimester!  I am finally at 14 weeks and starting to feel like a normal human being again!  My stomach is still angry in the morning but I get a reprieve for the rest of the day.  I also am getting some energy back and don't feel like collapsing in the couch after work every day.  I do still get tired really easy which is so hard to get used to.  Having to stop multiple times to rest on our easy hike is still a little embarrassing, but Andy is understanding and helps remind me of my extenuating circumstances.

I signed up for a study that is aimed at first time moms.  They are trying to determine if it's possible to predict whether or not a woman will have a complicated pregnancy since they have no previous pregnancies to compare to.  I felt compelled to participate being a fellow science geek and they enticed me with 3 extra ultrasounds.  Couldn't really turn that down :)  I had my first appointment on Wednesday and Andy got to come with and see Baby May for the first time!  Of course Mayhem was being feisty (2nd time I've heard that) and staring straight out so we didn't get to see the nice profile.  They said everything looked great and that baby was about 4 inches long from head to feet.  I'm hoping that I get scheduled for another study appointment before we come home in September so we can possibly find out if it's a boy or a girl.  My next normal appointment with an ultrasound isn't until 20 weeks which is at the end of September.

Pants are a little tight but not too much going on yet in the bump region

Till next week!

Introducing...

Baby May!!!

We are very excited to officially announce that Mayhem is set to arrive February 17th, 2013 :)

I painted a chalkboard in Baby May's room
12 week ultrasound
Baby is already moving a ton!  The ultrasound tech said I better get ready...
Can't believe how much he/she changed in 4 weeks.   It was pretty amazing to see all the facial features, hands, feet etc.

It's been a rough couple of months so I know both Andy and I are looking forward to the 2nd trimester. I'm hoping my stomach will settle down, the headaches will go away and I'll get some energy back in the next couple weeks.

We're very excited and a little anxious to be parents to something more than a golden retriever!

Lexi and Andy

Road trip home

After months of anticipation we packed up the Rav and started the trek back home.  Everyone thought we were leaving after work on Friday the 20th but Andy took Friday off so we decided to surprise everyone and left after work on Thursday.  We drove all night and got to my parent's house around 12:30pm for the first surprise.  It was great to chat for a couple hours before heading up to the cities and the cabin.

We did a little covert planning with Katie and Tom and managed to surprise both Kathy and Steve with our early arrival.  We smashed 6 people, 2 kids, 2 dogs and a lot of stuff into 2 cars but made it to the lake.

We were so excited to spend time with family but I think Cali was the happiest of all to be back at the lake.  She swam every chance she could get.  She even mastered jumping off the end of the dock!
We had lots of boat time, relaxation, lots of great greasy Lincolnwood food and drinks.

Cali never wants to be left behind

After the cabin we drove down to St. Peter to stay at my parents place for a couple days.  Unfortunately we seem to have forgotten how to use the camera since we have NO pictures of the 2nd part of our trip...

We checked out my sister Greta's new house.  They hadn't even lived there for a week and we were already crashing.  We went and lost playing bingo but it was still fun!  We were able to spend some time with all my siblings except Raquel since she is living in Baltimore right now.  Greta and Nate now live in St. Louis Park, Gabrielle lives in St. Paul and Wyatt will be starting his freshman year at Iowa State in a couple weeks.  It was so great to relax and see so many family members!

On Friday we drove down to Iowa City to see my best friend Bonnie and her husband Matt.  We got to spend an hour with them when we were back in May but other than that hadn't seen them since our wedding in Mexico!  They just finished building their house and we couldn't wait to see it and them!

Then came the dreaded drive back to UT.  We left Iowa City at 1:30pm and got home at 9:30am Sunday morning.  Not too bad considering our hour detour for construction and a 2 hr rest stop sleep session.  Oh the things we do just so we can bring our spoiled puppy home with us...

It was a great trip but I think we are both looking forward to flying next time :)

Love,
Lexi
