Weeks 8 and 9 and lots of smiles! 10 weeks old today!

Week 8

Tuesday the 2nd Andy and I did our first Everett hand off.  I had bookclub and Andy worked late so we met at a gas station and shadily transferred Everett from one car to the other.  Ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

2 whole months!!
 Everett loves...
- Ceiling fans (fascinating I know)
- Laying on his changing table.  Not getting changed, just hanging out.
Everett's quirks...
- Sometimes would rather be put down than held if crying
- Always has cold hands and feet like his mom
- Moves constantly when he's laying down...see blurry photo above
- He hates being on his tummy :(
New stuff...
- Everett's grown eyebrows and LONG eyelashes
- Now exclusively on formula
-Getting 5.5 ounces every 4 hours
-Lots of real smiles!  Really hard to get a picture of the smiles.
Still the same...
-Eating every 4 hours day and night
-Still puking like a volcano but very hit or miss.  All or nothing.
-Exclusively sleeping in his crib.  He takes 1 good nap in his crib as well.  Trying to transition him out of his swing
Cali is always close but never too close :)

Still a little guy!
Spring has sprung in UT!
Friday April 5th we helped our friends Jarrett and Brittany do a little home renovation.  Andy and Jarrett demo'd walls in the basement and I helped Brittany paint.  Everett cried :)  He was not a happy camper.  Thankfully our friends really like Everett and don't mind putting up with his fussiness.

Saturday the 6th we did yard work and went for a hike.  Andy found a new trail near our house so we took Cali and Everett to check it out.

Sara and Zane invited us over for dinner and dominos on Monday the 8th.  They introduced us to Mexican Train and we are obsessed!! So fun!

Alyssa was so sweet and offered to watch Everett on Wednesday the 10th so Andy and I could have a date night.  Hard to turn down!!  We had a groupon to a sushi place that was featured on Man vs. Food so we took advantage of our Everett free night and checked it out.  Pretty good!  We then got a drink at an upscale bar near our house that we've been talking about since we moved into our house.  It was really fun but kind of weird to be alone.  Kind of looking forward to going back to work so I have something other than Everett's sleep, eating and pooping schedule to talk to Andy about :)

Tough to love a face like that!
We've transitioned to 0-3 month clothes!
On Friday April 12th we had Everett's 2 month appointment.  We were very excited to find out how much bigger he'd gotten.  Since he was busting out of his newborn clothes I estimated he was 9+ lbs.  Our little guy tipped the scales at 10 lbs 7.5 ounces and was 21 3/4 inches!  Still only in the 17th percentile for weight but we are catching up quick!  The doctor noticed that the left side of his head was just a little flat so we're going to keep an eye on that.  He tends to sleep looking left.  We also found out he has sensitive skin like his dad.  He would scream bloody murder whenever I put Johnson's lotion on him and the doctor said it probably stung him and suggested an eczema lotion.  Poor little guy.  Problem solved!  He also got stabbed 3 times for his immunizations.  Not as bad as we expected!  He must have built up a tolerance after he had to have his heel stuck so many times right after he was born...

Busting out of our newborn jams
He changes sooo fast from week to week!
New stuff for week 9...
-His focus is much better.  He still likes ceiling fans but focuses on lots of other stuff now that he can see better
-He loves bouncing on his feet
-He really wants to be sitting all of a sudden
-He's decided that sitting while being burped is not going to cut it.  He stands up to burp now...
-The highlight of the week was him recognizing his mom and dad!  I was holding him up sitting on the arm of a chair just looking around.  He turned, looked straight at me and gave me the biggest smile :)  Makes it all worthwhile.  Andy will come home from work and when he goes to say hi to Everett he gets all sorts of smiles.  Notoriously hard to get a picture of...
-I set up his jumper this week since he likes to sit up now.  He's WAY to small for it but it will work.
-He still hates baths.  He gets a bath twice a week and is really unhappy about it.  He's ok until we pour water over his head.
-Sitting and bouncing when he's crying is also all of a sudden a no no.  You must be standing :)
-Old Mac Donald is also a must before falling asleep.  I got all the way to dinosaurs one day...
-He's up to 6 ounces of formula every 4 hours.  We were hoping that would help him sleep longer but no luck.
-I also have been trying to get him on some sort of sleep schedule.  Also a bust.  So for now I'm waking him up every 4 hours to eat if he doesn't wake up himself during the day and letting him sleep as long as possible at night.
-He's awake between feedings during the day anywhere from 1-3 hours
Looks like his dad!
Back to drowning in our clothes and diapers.  Up to 0-3 month clothes and size 1 diapers
Excited about our new wardrobe
We are 10 weeks old today!  So hard to believe I only have 2 weeks left of maternity leave!

Love that little face :)
On a whim I decided to book a flight home to take advantage of my last weeks of maternity leave.  Everett and I will be in the frozen tundra from April 26th-May 3rd!!  Very excited but very nervous.  The idea of taking an 11 week old on the plane by myself is a bit terrifying.  Not so much the confined space or him crying.  He loves his pacifier and most of the time doesn't make a peep when we give in and give it to him, its trying to carry all our stuff!  How do you carry a baby, carry on, checked luggage, car seat and base all at the same time?  And getting through security? Oi...I know I'll be fine but it's a little bit intimidating right now and I can't wait for all the grandparents, aunts and uncles etc to see Everett again!

Andy's 30th birthday is this weekend so we'll have lots of updates for the next post.

Thanks for checking in!
Love,
Lexi, Andy, Everett and Cali!

7 weeks and getting big!

The past 2 weeks have been busy but so much fun!  Week 6 brought some amazing warm weather!  We had highs in the 70's so all the doors and windows were open.  I also had to figure out how to dress Everett with it being so warm.  I was used to putting him in long sleeve onesies and jammies so trying to swaddle him and not have him roast was a struggle.
Had to get Everett a hat.  Just a little big :)
Andy and I got out to ski for the first time together this year!  Our friends Brendan and Alyssa were so nice and offered to watch Everett so we could have a ski day at the Canyons with Sara and Zane.  It was really cold in the morning but the sun came out and we actually had some pretty good snow!  We even got a chocolate stuffed belgian waffle, aka The Torpedo.  Sooo good!
Little nugget
Our little lumberjack
Week 6 also brought another growth spurt...which means no sleep and an unhappy baby.  Everett is usually pretty content to just hang out and play for 30-60 minutes after he eats before he gets tired.  When he's not sleeping well he doesn't want to play and just cries because he's over tired.  Poor little guy.  Thankfully it only lasts a couple days and then we get our fun and happy, good little sleeper back.  He also likes to spit up a lot!  It's like a sneaky volcano as the video from the last post shows.  Most of the time he's completely happy and then, surprise!  Thankfully it's getting better and not so frequent.  Lots of wardrobe changes and dirty burp cloths!

Andy's hockey season came to an end.  We met our match in the Semi-finals.  It was a lot of fun to be back playing hockey again, lots of fun guys on the team.  I'm signed up for a summer league that starts next month, looking forward to a little more low-key "bar-league" type setting.

We also found daycare!  So nice to have that taken care of.  We had been given a recommendation from some friends in the neighborhood and she happened to have an opening.  Our interview went very well and I think we'll all be happy with her taking Everett.  He'll be within walking distance which is great and she only takes neighborhood kids.  Not excited about leaving him in a month but having some place we are comfortable with helps a lot.

Everett is also now sleeping exclusively in his crib.  He makes lots of noises when he's falling asleep or when he stirs in the middle of the night so now we only wake up when he really is awake and is crying which helps all of us keep our sanity.  He really does sleep well for how little he is.  Most of the time we'll put him down when he's still awake but sleepy and he'll fall asleep on his own and sleep about 3 hours.
Still in newborn onesies but starting to bust out!
Much happier as a 7 week old!
We have a little man!!  I have no idea how he got so big so fast!  No real smiles yet but he's trying!  It's amazing how 1 week can change so much.  His eye contact and focus is sooo much better.
Lots more pictures with a happy baby!
Our friends Matt and Cassie Yehl came to visit this past weekend!  They got to meet Everett for the first time and we had lots of fun!  Cassie is 22 weeks pregnant with their first baby so we were hoping E didn't scare them too much :)  Kind of ironic but I was the same number of weeks along the last time we saw them.  The weather was gorgeous again and we got out for all types of activities.  We went hiking, snowshoeing/skiing, played lawn games and grilled out.  Can't wait to meet Baby Yehl due August 1st!
Definitely got our first sunburn of the season on our hike
First time snowshoeing!  Getting lots of use out of the Baby Bjorn :)
All 4 of us went up to Alta for the winter activities.  Cassie and I went snowshoeing and Andy and Matt did a backcountry tour.  It was so fun and great to get out.  It was beautiful!  The temp was about 50 and even hotter in the sun, even at 9000ft!  Everett had a good time too.  He was so good and slept the whole time.  He got lots of attention while we were out.
The boys babysat while Cassie and I went out to look for fabric for Baby Yehl's quilt.
Yard games and beers while Everett sleeps :)
The Yehl's left on Sunday so Andy and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and try out our new "normal" life and go mountain biking.  There are some great trails 5 minutes from our house that we ride quite a bit.  Our new normal consists of 1 of us biking while the other sits in a lawn chair at the car with Everett and then we switch.  Not ideal but it allows both of us to get out and do the things we love and at the same time not abandon our child.  Everett didn't even notice because he slept the whole time!  We are sad that we aren't going to be able to do as many things together but happy we can still make it work.
First ride on my new bike.  Love it!
Happiness
We had to dress up Everett for his first Easter.
3 month clothes are still amazingly big.  This onesie goes down to his knees and the pants go up to his armpits :)
Thanks Grandma Kathy!
Chillin with Dad on Easter Sunday.  7.5 weeks old.
Thanks for checking in again this week!

Lexi, Andy, Everett and Cali
